A lazy day on the Red River...

Campgrounds:

Koomer Ridge Campgrounds:  606-663-2852

Koomer Ridge Campgrounds is the only Official U.S. Forest Service Campground located within the Red River Gorge Geological Area.  Koomer Ridge is located on KY-15 approximately 1 mile West of the Pine Ridge (Exit 40) and 5 miles East of the Slade (Exit 33).

Take the Bert T. Coombs Mountain Parkway Southeast from Winchester Exit 98 off I-64 just East of Lexington and the intersection of I-75 and I-64.

Koomer Ridge Campgrounds has trailer and tent spaces, a bath house with flush toilets, vault toilets, fire pit with grate, lantern posts, drinking water, picnic tables and an amphitheater located at the back of the facility.  All sites are first-come, first-served.  Koomer Ridge operates from April through October full-service with sites available, but no bath house or running water during the winter season.

    Whittleton Campgrounds:

     Located across from the entrance to Natural Bridge State Park.

    Middle Fork:

     Located at the Cottages/Cabins entrance to Natural Bridge State Park.
